Installing a transformer can be difficult, especially if you are not familiar with the transformer or if this is your first attempt to install one. Transformers must be installed with great care and precautions, otherwise they may cause internal damage to your equipment.
It is important that you follow all safety precautions and provide all your construction workers who operate transformers with the required safety equipment. Doing these two things will help you install liquid filled and dry-type transformers.
Main point to consider when setting up and connecting Transformers
1. Position
Electrical safety shall be considered when selecting the installation site; You should evaluate the land and soil in advance. Should not be exposed to risks or threats to your equipment and personnel. Similarly, structural stress analysis also needs to analyze the integrity of structural design. In earthquake prone areas, special provisions need to be adopted to prevent collapse during earthquake movement.
2. Improve air circulation
For dry-type transformers, ventilation is the most important. They should be placed in a place with sufficient space to allow rapid heat dissipation and continuous access to clean and dry air with appropriate ventilation.
3. Grounding
Ensure that the transformer is properly grounded and eliminate static electricity accumulated on the transformer. It is also important that you protect and protect your transformer from accidental contact with the core.
4. Wiring
Make sure all your grounding wires are covered with wood plastic or plastic on the foundation of a pole more than 8 feet. In addition, the correct installation of the stay wire helps to improve electrical safety and protect the pole wire from further damage from conductor strain, pole mounted equipment and adverse weather conditions.
5. Mounting
As long as the weight distribution is uniform and the total weight is within the safe range of the pole, multiple transformers can be installed on one pole. A single-phase transformer less than 100 KVA is installed above the secondary mains. It is recommended to install platform for transformers above 100kVA.
6. Humidity
In case of rain or humidity, many precautions need to be taken, especially liquid filled transformers. Dry air needs to be continuously pumped into the gas space for about 20-30 minutes, and the service personnel enter the tank.
7. Liquid Inspection
If the insulating liquid needs to be removed, it is necessary to ensure that all equipment such as containers, hoses and pumps used are clean and dry. If the equipment has been used by other liquids before, please clean all contaminated items before use. Make sure you have a clean and dry storage container to store the liquid and filter the liquid before refilling the container.
8. Pressure Maintenance
It is very important to maintain positive pressure at any time, even at low temperatures. In order to achieve this, sufficient gas pressure needs to be maintained. The pressure vacuum gauge will show the change of pressure with ambient temperature, which needs to be recorded regularly.
9. Final Test
Once the transformer is set up, a final inspection must be carried out before the unit is powered on. Observe electrical safety regulations and remind all personnel of the fatal voltage present in the transformer housing and connection points. It needs to ensure that the electrical connection has been carried out correctly and that there is the correct low voltage and high voltage ratio between the windings. Check the fan, motor, thermal relay and other auxiliary equipment. In addition, the continuity of all windings must be checked.
